Jawbreaker Mushroom Coral (Discosoma sp.)

Description:
The Jawbreaker Mushroom Coral is one of the most sought-after and visually stunning soft corals in the reef-keeping world. Known for its dazzling mix of fiery reds, oranges, and yellows, often developing green and purple streaks as it matures — each specimen is completely unique, making it a true collector’s piece. Under blue-spectrum lighting, its intense colouration glows vividly, creating a dramatic focal point in any reef display.

Discosoma mushrooms are hardy, adaptable and thrive in a wide range of reef conditions, making the Jawbreaker Mushroom suitable for both beginner and advanced aquarists alike. Its low-maintenance nature and ever-evolving colouration make it a show-stopping addition to any coral collection.

Feeding & Nutrition:

The Jawbreaker Mushroom Coral is photosynthetic and derives much of its energy from its symbiotic zooxanthellae. However, occasional target feeding with fine particulate coral foods or small meaty offerings such as mysis or reef roids can enhance growth and coloration.

Notes:

  • Prefers stable parameters and low to moderate light.

  • Can reproduce by splitting, eventually forming a small colony over time.

  • Avoid placing near aggressive LPS corals to prevent tissue irritation.

  • Minimal flow is preferred to prevent detachment or tearing.
