Aquascape:
Provide ample live rock for perching, shelter, and grazing surfaces. Include crevices and small caves for retreat, as this species will occasionally dart into cover when startled. Moderate to strong water flow and stable parameters are recommended. The Canary Blenny spends much of its time swimming in open mid-water, so a mix of open areas and structured rockwork is ideal.

Diet and Feeding

The Canary Blenny is omnivorous, feeding primarily on small planktonic organisms and filamentous algae in the wild. In captivity, it readily accepts a wide variety of prepared and frozen foods.

Recommended Foods:

• Frozen mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood

• High-quality marine omnivore pellets or flakes

• Algae- and spirulina-based foods for balanced nutrition

• Occasional live foods to encourage natural feeding response

Feed 2–3 times daily in moderate portions. A varied diet helps maintain vibrant colour and health.

Temperament and Compatibility

The Canary Blenny is peaceful and non-aggressive, making it suitable for most community reef aquariums. It rarely bothers other tankmates and typically relies on its warning coloration and mild venom for defense rather than confrontation.

Suitable Tankmates:

• Clownfish, gobies, firefish, cardinalfish, dartfish, and small wrasses

• Peaceful invertebrates and corals

Avoid:

• Large predatory species that may attempt to consume slender-bodied fish

• Aggressive dottybacks, triggers, or hawkfish that may harass it

Multiple Meiacanthus species can sometimes coexist in large, well-structured systems, though individuals may defend territories in smaller tanks.
