Description

The Chieftain Butterflyfish has a laterally compressed, diamond-shaped body with a long, white dorsal filament extending from the first dorsal spine, giving it a graceful, flag-like appearance. Its body is predominantly white, adorned with three wide black vertical bands: one running through the eye, a second mid-body, and a third near the base of the tail. The posterior dorsal and caudal fins are bright yellow, adding vibrant contrast.

Adults can grow up to 20–23 cm (8–9 inches) in length, and they often swim elegantly in midwater, displaying their long dorsal filament and striking patterning.
